Welcome to Som Visao's Second Trimester Wellness Program. We've designed this program to be a fun and effective way to balance healthy lifestyle habits during your pregnancy. Our second trimester program addresses the specific changes that occur during months four through seven of your pregnancy. The focus remains on preparing you mentally and physically for your third trimester and includes a solid exercise program delivered by our Lifestyle Coach. You will also learn about the nutritional requirements for you and your baby. Best of all, we include spa days to balance your hard work with absolute relaxation and pampering and give you to opportunity to meet your baby (and learn baby's gender if desired) through our 4D ultrasound services. You're half way there, take time to give you and baby the best possible gift - a healthy, fit and relaxed mom-to-be. About the Second Trimester Wellness Program
The Second Trimester Wellness Program considers the emotional and physical changes that commonly occur as you progress through the second trimester. We've designed this program to be a fun and challenging balance of one-on-one exercise sessions, nutrition counseling, and rewarding spa services that reduce anxiety while treating the common changes that occur during the second trimester. All of the planning for this program has been taken care of by the experts at Som Visao and gives you the tools to build on the foundation you built in the first trimester. Carrie Smith, RMT - As a Registered Massage Therapist, Carrie has spent past seven years working at various clinics in the Whistler area. Living, playing and working in such an active community has allowed her to interact with a varied clientele, including professional athletes, weekend warriors and professional desk jockeys.
Diana Steele R.D. - Committed to teaching nutrition in a realistic and do-able way, Diana has provided personalized nutrition counseling to over 1500 individuals, couples and families and has designed and delivered over 500 nutrition workshops and seminars across the country. Rewarding Spa Escapes
Our spa escapes are offered to reduce anxiety and are tailored to some of the changes that occur during the second trimester. We include the spa escapes into the program as way for you to reward yourself for working hard through your lifestyle coaching program and nutrition counseling program. All of our prenatal spa selections are free of teratogens and our Aestheticians have been trained to work with expecting mothers. Prenatal Massage
During the second trimester the ligaments and tendons in your pelvis begin to loosen and there's additional strain on your upper back and neck as a natural compensation from the additional weight from your pregnancy. Benefits of prenatal massage include: easing backaches, shifting posture, increasing circulation, reducing GI symptoms (reflux and constipation), reducing stretchmarks, reducing edema (swelling), decreasing anxiety, promoting relaxation and deep breathing, reducing stress on weight-bearing joints, and reducing pain in the pelvic region. Second Trimester 3D/4D Ultrasound Scan
Our second trimester 3D/4D ultrasound service is offered for you and your family to connect with your unborn child and to foster the healthy lifestyle choices you're making while pregnant. We offer complimentary optional gender determination for all of our scans (given you're past 20 weeks gestation) and encourage the father-to-be to attend the scan. We only recruit Sonographers who have a genuine interest in Obstetrical care, carry an active license with the American Registry of Diagnostic Sonographers, and have at least 3 years experience to ensure your scan is the highest quality. Unlike many imaging centres, Som Visao has affiliations with Perinatologists and In Vitro Fertilization Clinics so we ensure our services are as professional and meaningful as possible. At Som Visao, we're dedicated to reviewing the literature and offering a responsible and meaningful service to enhance your pregnancy. Studies of the impact of 2D/3D US on parental-fetal bonding suggest that 3D/4D images positively change the attitude of expectant parents toward the pregnancy by enhancing the bond between mom and baby, reducing anxiety in parents, and also increasing awareness of the importance of taking care of one's own health during pregnancy. Other studies have shown that mothers who received 4D pictures shared their images with significantly more people that those receiving 2D ultrasound suggesting parents may develop a larger support group during pregnancy.
Lifestyle Coaching
We introduce you to an exercise program that follows the pre/postnatal exercise guidelines developed by the CSEP (Canadian Society of Exercise Physiologists) and SOGC (Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada) and ensure that your program is instructed by a pre/post natal exercise specialist who is fully-qualified to these standards. The program is designed to build on the techniques you learned in the first trimester while developing strength to bear additional weight in the third trimester. It therefore offers a balance of strength and flexibility training during this time of transition. Nutrition Counseling
We emphasize the consumption of safe foods for pregnancy and have designed the second trimester nutrition plan to ensure you're meeting your nutritional requirements and are eating the necessary macronutrients to compliment your exercise program. A consultation with our Registered Dietitian will provide you with the guidance to ensure you are meeting your requirements for key nutrients including calcium, iron, folate, vitamin D and essential fatty acids. We also select foods to supply you with the energy and nutrients you'll need to stay active and healthy in the face of your competing pregnancy hormones.
